The French Institute Announces the Launch of PAIR

The French Institute is launching PAIR – Program for International Artists in Residence – a new program aimed at French residency structures to facilitate the reception of foreign artists and creators. This first call for projects targets residency venues wishing to host artists from Africa and France between October 2024 and December 2025.

With PAIR, the French Institute is committed to supporting residency structures located in France and abroadto enhance their international presence by hosting foreign artists. For its launch, this new program will support the reception of artists from the African continent with the aim of strengthening ties between French and African artistic communities in various disciplines including visual arts, performing arts, literature, cinema, etc.

To apply for this program, the residency structure, in collaboration with the artist, submits an application dossier. Together, they propose a research and creation project that requires the artist’s residency in France for a period of 1 to 3 months between October 2024 and December 2025.

The eligibility criteria allow for a harmonized framework around best residency practices including the remuneration of the resident; provision of accommodation and workspaces; tailored artistic, administrative, and technical support. The winning structures will receive a grant calculated based on the duration of residency and necessary international transport. In 2024, around twenty projects will be supported.
