The Arab Arts Focus (AAF) supports Arab artists by providing platforms to showcase their work, enhancing the contemporary arts scene, amplifying diverse regional voices, and fostering cross-cultural understanding. Operating on three main tiers—organizing Arab performing arts showcases, producing works for established artists, and disseminating Arab performances globally—AAF facilitates opportunities for artists to tour internationally, secure financial stability, build new audiences, and expand their reach.

An Exciting Opportunity for Emerging Performing Artists!

We are excited to launch the “Cairo Calling” program supported by British Council in Egypt and Fonds de Soutien aux Arts Arabes (FSAA) during the 12th edition of the Downtown Contemporary Arts Festival (D-CAF), targeting emerging Arab performing artists from Egypt, the Arab world, and the UK.

Ten emerging artists will be hosted for a residency and training from October 17th to November 10th, with four additional performances from November 7th to 9th.

These are two separate programs during the festival, each requiring a separate application form. Details for each application form can be found below, and applicants can apply to both programs by filling out both forms.

Program Details

1. The Training Program

Ten emerging artists from Egypt, the Arab region, and the United Kingdom will be hosted for three weeks, the duration of the 12th edition of the Downtown Contemporary Arts Festival (D-CAF) in Cairo, to participate in an intensive training program and interact with the festival’s performances.

Morning sessions will focus on the participants’ artistic approach and style, and how to promote their work regionally and globally, enabling the artists to develop their artistic and professional skills simultaneously.

Participants will enjoy attending D-CAF performances in the evening and will have the opportunity to meet the artists after the shows to discuss the festival’s performances.

Over the three weeks, participants will prepare summaries of their projects to present to a panel of programmers from the Arab region and the United Kingdom.

2. Performances Showcase

Four dynamic performances featuring emerging artists from Egypt, the wider Arab region, and the United Kingdom will showcase the Cairo audience and captivate a panel of programmers from across the Arab world and the UK. We seek visionary works that push boundaries, spark curiosity, and deeply resonate with contemporary themes.
